Orientations and Training

Summer Q&A Session
Q&A sessions are typically hosted by local chapters of the JET alumni association in conjunction with the JET Program Office. These sessions are intended to provide an opportunity for new JETs to speak with experienced alumni who can provide advice on preparing for departure, life in Japan, and job duties as a JET.

Pre-Departure Orientation
All new JET Program participants must attend orientations that take place at the Japanese Embassy or Consulates General prior to departure for Japan. This orientation is designed to prepare new JET Program participants for the imminent departure. Please note that there will be no Pre-Departure Orientation for those already residing in Japan.

Post-Arrival Orientation
Participation in the post-arrival orientation in Tokyo is mandatory for all new participants. JET participants will receive training necessary for carrying out their work duties in Japan.

Other Training

After the Post-Arrival Orientation in Tokyo, participants travel to their placements for local orientations for their specific job duties and the schools or government offices where they will work.

Prefectural conferences are held annually to ensure that JET program participants continue to develop their skills and share teaching practices with other participants.

JET participants can also enroll in the Japanese language courses offered by CLAIR to improve their Japanese abilities as well as promote understanding of Japan through Japanese after returning home.

An annual schedule of all JET Program conferences can be found on the JET Programme international website at http://jetprogramme.org/en/conferences/
